About Change
Artist, Gail Siler, Ph.D.
I call myself a change artist
. because my work is about change: the
stages of change, the process of change, the effects of change as expressed
through porcelain clay objects, or as shared with fellow humans who are living
through changes in their own lives. Through my own life experiences I have
learned about the power, fear, excitement and alchemy of change. And this
knowledge I share through both my art and my workshops.
Working in clay embodies the alchemy of change. Summoning the elements of
earth, water, air and fire and mixing them with my inner spirit produces
serenity, excitement, chaos, peace and for me continual wonder! The result is
the body of work that I refer to as change art.
Working with humans to coach, guide and support them to BECOME something new
gives me the same feeling of awe. Humans undergoing change put themselves in
the same alchemical crucibal as a piece of clay. By giving our dreams
permission to come alive, moving into and beyond our own fears, allowing the
old us to die in order to give birth to the new, we take action to 'make it
so.' Like the clay, we become something new and wondrous.
